I painted this on Coll, the Scottish West coast Island west of Mull, when walking there with a friend and staying with friends of hers who live on the island. We were planning to go to Rhum but the clouds were down over the mountain we wanted to climb there and Coll was sunny as it often is. We set off early and there was an early morning haze when I painted this which later burnt off. We walked the coast and saw and heard corncrakes which have been successfully reintroduced to Coll. Wonderful
